Most gold specialists know that the 1880-1883 New Orleans eagles represent some of the toughest issues to find from the from this mint, not mention all of U.S. gold eagles and gold coinage. With mintages for all four years under 11,000, it is no surprise that these coins circulated heavily. While the 1883-O is by far the rarest, actually representing a world class rarity, any of the other 1880-1882 New Orleans eagles in AU50 to AU58 are very rare. Mint state example are virtually non existent. In my opinion, in AU55 and above these issues represent some of the most undervalued U.S. gold coins, if you can find them.

The present coin is technically mint state. The obverse and reverse devices are mint state and this coin was net graded AU58 due to the chatter in the fields and the nick on the tip of the chin. Fully prooflike fields with excellent luster. This is a phenomenal example!
